Gimbal Expansion Joint for applications with primarily angular movements any axis

2022.03.16

A Gimbal Type Expansion Joint (or Gimbaled Expansion Joint is another variation of hinged expansion joints. However, this type of element absorbs angular rotation of any plane. This is achieved by using two pairs of hinge halves attached to each end of the expansion joint, with the pin end attached to the floating ring at a 90 degree angle. This will create an expansion joint that, when one end of the joint is considered to be fixed, will create a cone of rotation equal to twice the angular rotation allowed by the bellows. Like hinge attachments, gimbal attachments must be designed to withstand pressure thrust and all other externally applied loads.
